World Building Mechanics


Neon Shadows will have a world building mechanic that reflects the Character Building Mechanic. While the focus is on the City in the Valley, there are (maybe) cities outside of the valley. That all depends on the player.
In this world Building, there is a focus on each section of the city and players will be able to choose specific personality traits of that population, rumors, conflicts, beliefs, and any landmarks from a list (or make their own) and be able to interact with a map and draw those landmarks and notes on the map.
While there is a specific number to choose from, these things can change as the story plays on and the landmarks can grow as players explore the world.

For example:
The People who are in the Moon Lights Section are Witty, Snobbish, Distant, and Consuming.
The Rumors are There are new species of animals roaming into the cities, The Aether mines are starting to change people, and The Veterans of the war became Aether powered machines.
The Conflicts are The Sun Courts are starting to become overbearing, and The Refineries are poisoning the water to the lower cities. The overall belief is The feelings of the many do not override the facts of the world.
Some Key Landmarks are: The Aether Spire, The Mechanical Zoo, and The Glass Pipes.

This example would be done by the group together for all the sections of the city and the Outlands to create the world around them. We are creating an idea for small "pre-written esque" stories (called Playable Journals) for players looking for something a little more structured and to give a smooth introduction to new players.

The players are welcome to be from wherever they want to be in the world, but this does not give them a direct advantage over another. A player from one section might have the most knowledge about that section, but there are no strategic, monetary, or stat advantages given.
