Characters, Mechanics and More

Alright! First Dev Log! This was a long time coming and so this is a big update!

Mechanics

Mechanics are done and currently being looked at by some wonderful volunteers to see if they make sense and if the game is playable. They involve using the 4 card suits in different ways and each character has special card mechanics so everyone can shine in any moment through the game. Once these are looked over and feedback sent back, I will go more into how the mechanics work.

Characters

The Characters are based on the 9 enneagram types and in the style of a playbook. Each character has a variety of choices and questions to answer that will build your character.  These questions are things such as

  • What are two codes you still hold fast, and what is one you had to let go of?
  • What two ways do you express yourself? What is one way that was taken from you?
  • What is one Order will you give at a moment’s notice, and what command will you never order again?

Each question has a list of answers and then players are instructed to tell the group about them in different ways. These have also been sent out to some for feedback and will be teased out once we get full feedback

Worldbuilding

This is where we are at now. We are currently building the world and how to reflect the character building in the world creation. We are developing lore as we do this. Something being talked about is releasing prewritten junk journals for players who want to play but want a little more structure. These would include some NPCs, a background of the story, a group goal, and some key areas on the map. There will also be places for players to make their own notes and customize the game. From there there will be places for players to write and journal the story together from the view of their character. This will keep the open game, custom nature of Neon Shadows, but help those who may be intimidated by narrative and open story telling games.
